BAD DISCOVERY
I was re-setting some of the trot moorings yesterday and noticed, for the first time in my time here, clumps of Pacific Oysters around the stream at low tide and on the south side of the bank. They don’t seem to like the soft mud but gravitate to the shingle and pebble riverbed. I have never seen them like this before and learnt, to my cost, that moving them without gloves is not a good idea! They have, as most of you know, taken a firm hold in many places on The Helford and, if not dealt with, they create a floor of razor sharp vertical shells that make using the beach almost impossible. I think we need to organise a group of volunteers who are willing to walk the PN Creek at low tide to smash and move the offending creatures as they pose a threat to people swimming and paddle boarding in the creek and may also do damage to the hulls of boats and ribs. (George, I hear your exclamations!)
