MARTHA AND FINN LANDED SAFELY IN THE PN MUD

Martha and Finn finally returned from Greece on 10th September, completing their home leg from the island of Paxos (just below Corfu) to Port Navas.  On the way back they raised money for Alzheimers Research UK and Surfer’s Against Sewage. Some 15 “crew/friends” joined them on their way home on their trusty 29ft Westerly, Coral Corona.  Trusty until a seal on the engine gave way and the bilges were flooded with oil while they were travelling up the Canal Du Midi towards Bordeaux. This challenge was then followed by a European Visa issue as they had stayed longer than 90 days. However once Martha explained, in French, what they were doing, the local French authorities were amazing and got it sorted for them after a ten day hold up. They then faced some pretty big weather coming around Britany dressed in plastic cagouls (rather than state-of-the-art sea wear) before making the dash across The Channel with our friend Tim Hunt, arriving in The Helford as the tide was going out.  They got to within about 12 metres of the landing pontoon at PNYC before running aground in the mud – a fittingly funny end to their 5,400. nautical mile round trip. You can see Coral stuck in the mud behind their right shoulders in the picture below as they unload their stuff !

They have raised over £7,000 for Alzheimers and Surfers Against Sewage and the just giving page is still open should you feel the urge…..
