Something in the air, tonight.

Definitely a little bit of autumn creeping up on us along with the earlier sunsets, giving a real feeling of something changing. And it is that time of year as we ease ourselves out of the summer routine and I look at changing the summer menu into more seasonal choices.
Although I love cooking and serving my version of Yotam Ottolenghi’s Lamb Shawarma, it is a grabber of time and space, so it will slip quietly away to be replaced with a dish I found last year. This spiced lamb and aubergine fatteh is a rich warming melange of Middle Eastern spices , lamb and aubergine with crispy chickpeas and flatbread, the latter giving its name to the dish.
We are still using produce from our own gardens, with the tail end of summer gluts of courgettes from Nigel, my ever abundant rhubarb and gifts of aubergine and cucumbers from kind customers making their way into various dishes. Look out for fresh Seworgan figs poached with Amaretto on a slice of banana loaf – yum!
We have struggled to maintain our usual supply of spider crab meat this summer so this is probably the last week to sup on a dish of crab linguine with garlic and chilli.  Other dishes will be changed or tweaked over the next couple of weeks and I will post changes as and when the yhappen to the website.
We are open this week from Wednesday to Saturday.
We have tables available all weekend, so please pop in or give us a ring.
Hope to see you all soon
Mike & Nigel and the team.
